So, you want to draw a chibi character but you are a non-artist or just starting with this digital drawing journey? So am I! And I know how difficult it is to Google and find so much information online that it becomes very overwhelming. So, I created a quick, easy-to-follow complete guide on how you can draw your chibi character!

No more dilly-dallys! Let’s begin.

The Chibi Character Anatomy

Chibis are like the adorable mini version of anime. Picture this: big heads, tiny bodies, and a whole lot of cuteness packed in. These little guys are all about spreading smiles and giggles in the world of anime and manga. Whenever things get a bit serious, they swoop in to add a splash of fun, poke a bit of friendly fun, or just make you chuckle with their antics.

Remember when drawing your chibi character that the head and body proportion is different from usual anime drawings we see. Here, head is way bigger than the rest of the body.

Things to keep in mind when you draw a chibi character

  1. The head is extra large
  2. The facial features are set low
  3. The shoulders are smaller and more sloped
  4. Arms and legs are like tubes
  5. Fingers are shortened into tiny nubs or something that looks like mittens
  6. Hands and feet are smaller and have little to no separation from arms and legs
  7. The body is shortened

Now, I’m going to show you how to draw the chibi part by part starting with the head.

Step 1: Chibi Character’s Head

There are different shapes you can use when drawing a chibi’s head.

Step 2: Chibi Character’s Body

I made another blog showing how to draw a chibi body proportion in 3 views: front view, 3/4 view, and side view. Check it out here and get a free line guide practice sheet, too.

A chibi’s body proportion is like 1/3 of a usual anime or manga character drawing. The head is the same size as the rest of the body. Here’s an easy guideline to use for the chibi’s body proportions.

The head should be drawn from line 1 to 4.

I also find it hard drawing chibi characters, sometimes even with the line guide. So, here’s a trick that made it easier: BEANS.
